Message from Director

Dr. Mukul Sutaone is currently the Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (An Institute of National Importance with the Act of Parliament).

In the immediate past, he graced the position of the First Vice Chancellor of COEP Technological University Pune, which is the legacy in the field of Engineering Education in the Country. He worked at College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) as Professor in Electronics and Telecommunication department for more than 30 years of experience, with illustrious accomplishments in Academics and Research. At COEP, Prof. Sutaone handled various administrative responsibilities such as Officiating Director, Deputy Director, Dean Academics, Dean-International Relations, Head of the Department, etc.

His areas of work & interests in Teaching & Research are 'Statistical & Adaptive Signal Processing, Wireless Communication & Networks and Statistical Modeling of Data'. He has conceived, practiced, executed and steered many innovative academic experiments in curriculum design and delivery for the students and faculty of his Institute, Pune University and other aspiring institutes, mentored by him.

In the capacity of Principal investigator of the "Center of Excellence in Signal & Image Processing", a World Bank funded project by MHRD-GoI (under TEQIP), Prof. Sutaone has been associated with the development and conversion of prototypes from mere Proof of Concept (PoC) to transferrable technologies. Some of such projects are ‘Video Stabilization for Cell Phones’ ‘Automated Inspection System for PCB fault detection’, ‘Density and Direction detection for Stampedes’, and 'Optimal Microphone Array for Audio beam-forming'.

With handsome number of contributed and cited publications to his credit, a few granted patents and copyrights as well as multiple Govt./Corporate funded projects, he is an applauded resource person in many conferences, workshops and symposia, in the areas of Signal Processing, Next Generation Communication, Outcome based Education and Effective Deployment of New Education Policies.

Prof. Sutaone is recipient of Prof. SVC Aiya IETE National Award for Excellence in Telecomm.

Greetings and a Warm Welcome to IIIT Allahabad!!

Education for an individual aims at enrichment, empowerment and enlightenment, infusing the skills of inquiry in the learner, which in turn illuminates the path of acquiring KNOWLEDGE, translating knowledge into WISDOM that leads to a perpetual journey towards TRUTH. When the humanity collectively tried to fight through a global pandemic, in last few years, an altogether changed World has evolved. In this brave new world, one is increasingly convinced that such empirical threat to the future of humanity can be successfully circumvented only through innovations in Sciences and Engineering, with their rapid translation to sustainable technology, however, within the spheres of humanity, ethics and symbiotic co-existence. Stellar accomplishments expand the frontiers of knowledge and scholarship every day, and that prompts an earnest need to train the next generation of leaders, technocrats and scientists who are not only technically skilled but morally attuned to identifying and solving problems that will take the nation forward.

IIIT-Allahabad, Prayagraj has always been uniquely poised and diligently working to tackle such challenges, as posed by time, technology and changing taste of learners, thereby strengthening itself to raise its stature and standard to the level-next, it deserves. The institute is perpetually prepared to welcome and reflect the radical changes in technological innovations into its teaching-learning and research. The academic character of the Institute is being serendipitously aligned with the vision carved by the National Education Policy 2020, which in turn, will be visible in its all-encompassing Undergrad, Masters, Research or Outreach programs, committing a distinct learning experience to the aspirants.
