Message from Chairman

The Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIIT, Allahabad, Dr. Anand Deshpande is the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Persistent Systems (www.persistent.com). Persistent Systems is listed in the Indian stock market (BSE, NSE: PERSISTENT) with more than 18,000 employees in 18 countries and 53 locations.

Dr. Anand holds a B. Tech. (Hons.) in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, and a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA. Prior to founding Persistent Systems, Dr. Anand began his professional career at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, California, where he worked as Member of Technical Staff.

Dr. Deshpande has served on numerous positions at various professional and non-profit organizations viz. NASSCOM’s Executive Council, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) India, where he was the first President, SEAP (Software Exporters’ Association of Pune), Pune Chapter of CSI (Computer Society of India), CII’s Pune Zonal Council

Trustee in the Computer History Museum, Trustee in the VLDB Endowment, Dean’s Advisory Council in the School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering of Indiana University, and the Vice President of the Executive Committee of MCCIA.

Dr. Anand Deshpande is currently the Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Patna, on the Board of the College of Engineering, Pune and on the Board of the Gokhale Institute for Politics and Economics.

With his family, he has set up deAsra Foundation (www.deasra.in) to promote nano entrepreneurs.

Message

IIIT Allahabad has emerged as one of the premier technology institutes in the country. The Institute recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary by showcasing the outstanding achievements since inception.

The world is changing exponentially. The technology that we use today will be obsolete in the years to come. In this fast-changing world, it is important that we educate students who know how to learn and adapt continuously. The IIIT Allahabad has emerged as one such place. The IIIT Allahabad curriculum is very aptly designed to support the needs of the students of the modern world. The curriculum is flexible and provides an in-depth knowledge of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Web3 and the Metaverse. Classroom instruction is coupled with hands-on laboratories and project work that help students acquire practical skills about in-depth subjects.

Multidisciplinary academic structure has been the hallmark of the institute. The institute has a tradition of research that spans multiple areas from life sciences to information science and are well-aligned with the National Education Policy.
