Paawan Kumar and Shefali Vinod Ramteke, PhD Scholars at IIIT Allahabad has won the prestigious award in CISCO Global Problem Solver Challenge 2020. They will receive $10,000 USD to support their team and further develop the technology. CISCO Global Problem Solver Challenge is a global competition where students and entrepreneurs participate from all over the world (over 12 countries) that has developed a solution that drives economic development or solves a social or environmental problem. CISCO will provide them further support and mentorship for a period of 3 years for advancement in their technology and solution to help them accelerate their breakthrough technology. Over 500 participants took part in the global challenge from over 12 countries and the team went through rigorous screening rounds for 6-8 months. They received feedback, mentorship, and support throughout the challenge duration from CISCO. The team has developed an Agriculture Drone which is financially supported by the Design Innovation Center, SPOKE IIIT Allahabad. The proposed drone can decrease the amount of prolonged pesticide exposure to those who manually spray pesticides. It is an AI system that can cover almost ten times the amount of land in an hour that someone can manually do on their own in a day, decreasing the harmful effects of pesticides and increasing the overall output of crops for farmers.
