Dr. Mohammed Javed

Dr. Mohammed Javed is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology at IIIT Allahabad since 2018. He has over 8 years of research experience in the areas of image processing, pattern recognition, and image/video compression.

He is an External Affiliate Member of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, University at Buffalo, New York, USA. In June 2023, he served as a Visiting Researcher at Takushoku University, Tokyo, Japan. Previously, during June–July 2022, he was a Visiting Faculty Researcher at the University at Buffalo, USA, working with Prof. David Doermann.

He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Mysore, focusing on detecting text in compressed document images under the supervision of Prof. P. Nagabhushan. His Ph.D. thesis was shortlisted for the 4th IDRBT Doctoral Colloquium (Hyderabad) and the ICVGIP Ph.D. Symposium (IISc Bangalore) in 2014.

Dr. Javed was a Research Intern at ISI Kolkata in 2013 and 2014 under Prof. B. B. Chaudhuri. He has authored more than 60 research papers and has presented his work at reputed international conferences including DCC2020, HIS2016, ICDAR2015, ICDAR2023, ACPR2013, ACPR2023.

He has supervised one Ph.D. scholar to completion and currently supervises two more at IIIT Allahabad. Dr. Javed regularly reviews for journals such as IEEE Transactions on Biomedical and Health Informatics, Elsevier Digital Signal Processing, and others.

He is currently leading two R&D projects, one of which is funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He received the SERB-DST Young Scientist Travel Grant for DCC2020 (USA) and GREC2023 (ICDAR2023, San Jose, USA).

He has received multiple grants from SERB-DST, CSIR, DRDO, and ISRO to organize international events such as ADASIVA (since 2018), IAPR-CVIP (2020), IAPR-CVMI (2022), and IEEE UPCON (2022).

Dr. Javed was the Organizing Chair for the inaugural edition of IAPR-endorsed CVMI-2022 and 9th IEEE UPCON-2022 held at IIIT Allahabad. He has presented his research in several countries including Malaysia, Morocco, UAE, France, Japan, and the USA.
